Cardboard, paperboard and honeycomb cores are usually bonded with water-based adhesives such as PVAc dispersions or starch glues. The glue is absorbed into the fibres and sets as the water is taken up and evaporates, so the board's absorbency and moisture content determine the open time and pressing time. In panel production a cold glue roller coater applies an even film to the core, after which the layers are pressed together.
