Belt sanding removes material with an endless abrasive belt that runs over a contact roller or a sanding pad. A hard contact roller removes stock and levels the surface, while a pad presses the belt flat onto the panel for a fine, even scratch pattern. The grit is stepped up from coarse to fine, for example from P80 to P180 on raw wood.
