In contactless coating the applicator does not touch the workpiece: the coating is sprayed or falls onto the surface as a curtain. This makes it suitable for profiled, uneven or three-dimensional parts, and for edges that a roller cannot reach. Spraying machines and curtain coaters are the usual contactless methods; roller coating is the contact alternative for flat panels.
