Infrared drying heats a coating and the surface beneath it directly with radiation from IR emitters, without first heating the air. This speeds up the evaporation of water from water-based lacquers, stains and glues. In a drying tunnel IR is usually combined with circulating warm air, which carries the evaporated moisture away.
