Veneer sanding requires removing as little material as possible, because a face veneer is often only about half a millimetre thick. Fine grits, low pressure and a segmented sanding pad that follows small thickness differences in the panel prevent sanding through, especially at the edges. The panel is usually calibrated before veneering so that the veneer lies flat.
