Water-based lacquers use water as the main solvent instead of organic solvents, which strongly reduces VOC emissions. On wood the first coat raises the grain, so an intermediate sanding step is usually needed. Drying requires warm air movement, often combined with infrared, and they can be applied with roller coaters or spray.
